Basic Pavestone Installation

STEP 1:  PREPARE THE BASE

  • For patio and walkway applications:  Roto-till portland cement into existing soil (94 lbs per 30 sq. ft.)
  • For driveway applications:  Use 4-6" finely crushed stone on compacted soil

STEP 2:  INSTALL EDGE RESTRAINT 

  • Establish perimeters of project
  • Install pavestone edging using 12" spikes

STEP 3:  SCREED SAND

  • Shovel pavestone sand or sharp, coarse, granular sand between two pieces of 1" (outside dimension) conduit pipes
  • Use 2x4 to screed and level sand

STEP 4:  LAYING STONE

  • Create custom patters by combining various shapes and colors of stone
  • Start in a square corner and work out in a triangular direction
  • Lay each stone next to previously placed stone and slide it straight down

STEP 5:  COMPACTION

  • Compact pavestones firmly into previously leveled sand
  • Fill joints by sweeping pavestone sand into gaps
  • Compact the surface one more pass to complete lockup
